SOLDIERS PARTICIPATE IN EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

           As the government, NGOs advocating the preservation of earth’s wonders and other pro-earth organizations alike, the CMO Battalion soldiers too show off its participation and support as it enjoined in the celebration of Earth Day on April 23, 2009.

 

           Series of activities initiated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources were participated by the unit to commemorate and advocate the Earth Day’s theme,“ TUBIG AT LUPA BUHAYIN, HANGIN LINISIN, BATAS TUPARIN”. Personnel foremost took part in the “Marathon for Mother Earth”, started in C6, Kenneth Bridge, Taytay, Rizal to Mall of Asia, Pasig City as its end point. It was equally participated by the PNP, PCG and other participating units of the AFP. An Army Sergeant emerged as the fastest marathoner. The awarding took part in the grand Earth Day Program.        

           On the other hand, the unit together with JCMOTF,NCRCOM; CRS, AFP and 719th  TSG, PAF fetched the 436 DENR sponsored children specifically members of “Mga Anak ni Inang Daigdig”, day care children of Sambayanang Kristiano Day Care Center and Sandiraan Center for Children of Smokey Mountain, Barangay 128, Tondo, Manila. The said children together with some CMO Bn personnel participated in the grand Earth Day Program held at SM Mall of Asia, Pasig City. During the program, the children were given gifts and learning materials sponsored by the mall’s tenants. The Philippine Army was also presented an award of appreciation by DENR and Haribon Foundation for the vast support and participation in the endeavors of   commemorating Earth Day.

          

           The children enjoyed much the Earth day’s activities with the soldiers. They also learned what they can simply contribute as children in the preservation of mother earth. After the program, the children were securely accompanied back to their barangay. The children and their parents were very glad to the soldiers for the opportunity given to them on that day.  Furthermore, Mr. Arnel Reyes, the coordinator in Barangay 128 also relayed its gratitude for the support provided by the unit  in realizing the set activity for the children.

 

           The activities of the Earth Day joined by the unit are but simple deeds to show that soldiers are not just advocates of peace but also adherents for the defense of a better and conducive environment.
